Epsom salts—the go-to item in my bathroom cabinet! Many of us keep a bag of them somewhere in our house, but do we know why? Epsom salt has been used for centuries for its many healing properties. The magnesium and sulfate play a key role in reducing inflammation, flushing out toxins, and help progress the absorption of nutrients. A large bag is typically less than $5, so not only is it a cheap find, but I can use it multiple ways in my health or beauty routine for almost anything. Here are 3 (of many) beauty benefits it can provide for you, too!
- Rejuvenate hair: Mix about a tablespoon of Epsom salt into your shampoo bottle for a deep scalp clean. The minerals help nourish the hair, adding extra volume to tired tresses. You can even mix it into a salt-water spray for airy beach waves.
- Clear face: Looking to remove stubborn blackheads and have tighter, less visible pores? Mix a pinch of Epsom salt in to egg whites and beat with a fork. Apply to the skin for 7-10 minutes and rinse off with a lukewarm washcloth. You can even mix some in to your favorite face wash to double as an exfoliate!
- Smooth skin: Use Epsom salt in the shower by mixing a palm sized amount with your favorite bath oil. Scrub any dry or flaky areas, such as the knees and elbows, or use as an allover body scrub if needed. Leave on for 5 minutes, letting the steam open up your pores, allowing for more absorption into the skin.
And of course, the classic Epsom salt bath! I mix about 3-4 cups in a hot bath and use a few drops of lavender oil and chamomile oil for stress-relief and anxiety. These are a great way to treat yourself without having to spurge on expensive beauty products! Check back in for Epsom salt uses in the home for this upcoming fall season.
